Goodbye! Universal Analytics ends on July 1st 2024
July 1st 2024 will mark a major transition for Google Analytics: Universal Analytics will be replaced by Google Analytics 4. From this date, access to data on Universal Analytics will be irretrievably cut off.
For some time now, we have all been noticing a banner informing us that new data will no longer be processed and that Universal Analytics properties will be deleted in the future, targeting the same fateful date.
To preserve Universal Analytics data, users must download it without delay.
What will disappear after 1 July 2024:
- E-commerce targets and transactions will no longer be tracked.
- Audience lists will cease to exist.
- API requests will stop working, affecting integration with tools such as Looker Studio.
- Universal Analytics attribution projects will be eliminated.
Options available to users:
- You don't think you need the data history: in this case leave it alone, note that this will result in the loss of all data accumulated since creation.
- Manual export: This is a complex and time-consuming process, especially for those with a large volume of data to preserve. It is also prone to human error and technically difficult, which makes it less advisable.
- Use of an ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) solution: This approach can be considered, but it involves high costs and a significant risk of failed backups or difficulties in exploiting the data once it has been exported.
Methods for exporting your Universal Analytics data :
- Exporting individual reports in different formats.
- Use the Google Analytics Reporting API to transfer data to services such as Cloud Storage or to integrate with Looker Studio.
- Installing the Google Sheets add-on for Analytics.
- Exporting via BigQuery,
